Leicester City are once again searching for a new loans manager after David Fox departed to join Plymouth Argyle.

The Foxes initially began looking for a replacement last autumn following Robert Huth’s departure.

Fox, who had spent five years in a similar role at Huddersfield, was appointed to oversee City’s loan operations.

However, his stint was brief, as he has now returned to Plymouth Argyle—the club where he ended his playing career—to take up the position of head of football operations.

Following their relegation to League One, Plymouth announced the appointment with a statement highlighting Fox’s connection to the club:

“We were focused on bringing in someone with the right experience and understanding of Argyle and Plymouth,” the club said.

“David is exactly that—he’s a fans’ favourite from his time here as a player, and we believe he is the ideal person to lead our football operations.”

At Leicester, the loans manager plays a crucial role in player development, ensuring young talents are placed at clubs where they can gain meaningful experience.

Robert Huth previously held the role for two years, following Guy Branston’s tenure.

Leicester have a strong track record of nurturing future first-team stars through successful loan spells.

Harvey Barnes, for example, honed his skills with MK Dons, Barnsley, and West Brom before becoming a Premier League regular.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall similarly benefited from stints at Blackpool and Luton.

More recently, Jakub Stolarczyk and Kasey McAteer, who both featured in Leicester’s starting XI against Nottingham Forest, gained valuable experience at Hartlepool and Wimbledon, respectively, before earning promotion to the senior squad.

This season, Will Alves has spent time at Cardiff City and Ben Nelson at Oxford United—both are expected to feature prominently next season, according to manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
