Everton are reportedly closing in on a move for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff, who is set to enter the final year of his contract this summer, according to journalist Peter O’Rourke.
With preparations underway for their move to the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium next season, Everton are expected to be active in the transfer market.
Backed by fresh investment from new owners The Friedkin Group, manager David Moyes is expected to bolster key areas of the squad.
A major focus will be strengthening the midfield, especially with the potential departure of first-team regulars like Abdoulaye Doucoure, who has been linked with a switch to Saudi Arabia.
O’Rourke, speaking to Football Insider, suggests Newcastle are open to offloading fringe players as they aim to streamline their squad, with Longstaff possibly among those set to leave.
Everton have maintained a long-term interest in the player and could now secure his services for a relatively modest fee.
“They could easily afford a deal – I don’t think it would cost too much to prise Longstaff away from Newcastle,” O’Rourke noted.
“With just a year left on his deal at St James’ Park, Newcastle likely won’t demand a huge sum, possibly around £10–12 million.
“Everton have tracked him for several windows. Considering his limited role this season, with only eight Premier League starts, Longstaff might be open to a new challenge where he can play more regularly.”
Longstaff, described as “incredible,” has been part of the Newcastle setup since 2006, coming through the academy to make over 200 appearances for the senior team.
However, his influence has diminished recently, making a summer move more likely.
Despite a reduced role at Newcastle, Longstaff’s Premier League experience could prove valuable for Everton as they rebuild under Moyes.
His leadership and familiarity with top-flight football would add depth and quality to the Toffees’ midfield options as they look to make a strong transition into their new era.
