Meanwhile, Alexander Isak firmly established himself as Newcastle’s primary striker, finishing the season with an impressive tally of 27 goals across all competitions.

“Thankfully, I’m financially secure, so I don’t feel pressure to go back to where I came from,” he explained. “I know I can still provide for my family.

I understand my value and, even though Alex is scoring regularly, I still get that frustration when I see the team sheet and I’m not starting.”

Wilson expressed a strong desire to end his career on his own terms. “I’m not ready to leave football yet—I want to walk away before the game forces me out. Injuries won’t stop me.

I’ve been fit for four-and-a-half months, but when you’ve only played 250 to 300 minutes, it’s tough.

You don’t want the final years of your career to just fade away, especially when you’ve worked so hard to get here.”

He added, “Right now, I’m just enjoying life and football. I’m playing with a smile and trusting that whatever’s meant to happen will happen.”

Wilson also touched on how his role at Newcastle has evolved. Once a focused, goal-driven striker, he now finds himself in more of a mentoring position.

“I’d say I’m genuinely happy. Football and family are two separate things, and family life is fantastic. Everyone’s healthy, and that keeps me grounded.”

Reflecting on his growth, he said, “Throughout your career as a striker, you’re naturally selfish. But now, I’m at a stage where I want to share and give back.

I’ve been mentoring Alex Isak and also Will Osula. In the past, I wouldn’t have done that—I was too single-minded.”

He concluded, “That’s the shift in my role. I’m seen as a senior figure now, a leader. I still have ambition and drive, but I’m also embracing the opportunity to support others.”
