Anthony Elanga was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United last summer, but financial limitations due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) prevented the Magpies from matching Nottingham Forest’s valuation of the winger.

Elanga remained at Forest and enjoyed a productive season, registering six goals and 12 assists in all competitions.

Now, according to the Mail Online, Newcastle have reignited their interest in the 23-year-old after missing out on Bryan Mbeumo, who appears poised to join Manchester United.

While Newcastle previously made bids in the region of £40 million, they may now have to increase their offer to over £50 million if they are serious about securing Elanga’s services.

Though PSR compliance was a hurdle for Newcastle last summer, the club is not expected to face similar issues this time around.

Last year, they offloaded Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest and Yankuba Minteh to Brighton in order to balance the books and avoid a possible points deduction.

Forest, on the other hand, are also in a stable position financially and are not under pressure to sell players to meet PSR guidelines.

Elanga has long been on Newcastle’s radar and fits the club’s profile of a player capable of making an immediate impact in the Premier League.

His speed, directness, and versatility in attack are attributes Newcastle admire.
