Jonny Evans, the former Leicester City captain, has officially announced his retirement from professional football and has taken on a new role at Manchester United that could indirectly benefit his former club.

After his playing contract at Old Trafford expired this summer, the 36-year-old centre-back confirmed what many had anticipated—that he was hanging up his boots.

Evans, a seasoned Northern Ireland international, will now serve as United’s new head of loans and pathways, a position designed to guide promising young players toward loan spells that can accelerate their progression into the senior team.

This move could be significant for Leicester City. During their last stint in the Championship, the Foxes signed four players on loan, a strategy they may revisit to avoid substantial transfer fees.

Evans ends his distinguished career with 536 senior appearances, including 152 across five years at Leicester.
