Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has raised two major questions surrounding the possibility of Steven Gerrard becoming the next Leicester City manager.

Following the departure of Ruud van Nistelrooy and their relegation from the Premier League, the Foxes are now in search of a new head coach.

Gerrard, currently a free agent after parting ways with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, is one of the names under consideration.

He previously enjoyed title-winning success with Rangers in Scotland but endured a disappointing stint at Aston Villa, where he was sacked within a year.

Speaking to Football League World, Goodman admitted it’s difficult to evaluate Gerrard’s managerial credentials comprehensively:

“He obviously did amazingly well with Rangers in the SPL, didn’t have the same impact at Aston Villa in the Premier League, and it’s hard to judge what he did in Saudi Arabia. It’s a tricky one.”

Goodman also pointed out that uncertainty surrounding Leicester’s immediate future could deter potential managerial candidates.

The club faces possible sanctions, including a points deduction, after being charged with three alleged breaches of the EFL’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), meaning they could start next season with a deficit.

“Gerrard has to ask himself whether Leicester is an attractive proposition right now,” Goodman continued.

“There’s the possibility of starting the season with negative points, and a likely squad overhaul with top players looking to leave.”

He concluded: “So, it’s a double question—does Steven Gerrard’s track record justify a job at a club like Leicester?

And, even if it does, is this current Leicester project something Gerrard would want to take on? Those are your $64 million questions.”
