Tottenham Hotspur appear poised to complete a sensational £165 million triple transfer swoop as they aim to significantly strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
Following a slow start to the summer window, Spurs have moved quickly to secure deals for Mohammed Kudus and Morgan Gibbs-White, and they’re now reportedly in advanced talks to land a prolific Premier League striker.
On Thursday evening, the north London club confirmed the signing of Ghanaian star Kudus from West Ham United for a fee of £55 million (€63.7m / $74.5m).
The dynamic attacker, known for his versatility and flair, has agreed a six-year contract and brings valuable experience after 80 appearances for the Hammers, where he registered 19 goals and 13 assists.
Shortly after the Kudus deal was announced, news broke that Tottenham had activated the £60 million (€69.5m / $81m) release clause in the contract of Nottingham Forest playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White.
That transfer came as something of a surprise, but it reflects the club’s new ambition under the guidance of head coach Thomas Frank.
With a combined outlay of £115 million already, chairman Daniel Levy—long criticized for being reluctant to spend—appears to be breaking the mould this summer.
Yet Spurs may not be done yet. Reports from BBC Sport suggest that Brentford striker Yoane Wissa could also be on his way to north London, further pushing the club’s summer spending to new heights.
Wissa, who netted 19 goals in 35 Premier League appearances last season, is reportedly eager to reunite with his former manager Frank at Tottenham.
Discussions between the clubs are said to be ongoing, with Brentford valuing the DR Congo international at around £50 million (€58m / $67m). Should Spurs meet that price, their total transfer outlay would hit approximately £165 million.
However, Levy may look to negotiate a lower fee, especially considering Wissa will turn 29 in September and has just one year left on his current contract.
A full-price deal would be out of character for Levy, making a reduced offer or structured deal more likely.
Adding further complexity, Brentford are reluctant to part with both Wissa and fellow forward Bryan Mbeumo in the same window.
Mbeumo has attracted strong interest from Manchester United, and the west London club may dig in their heels to avoid losing both key players simultaneously.
Meanwhile, Kudus has opened up about the influence Frank had on his decision to join Tottenham. Speaking to the club’s official website, he said:
“It feels great to be here, I’m very happy and can’t wait to start. One of the most important parts of why I came here is the project and how the manager sees it, and to develop under him.”
He continued: “With the history of where he’s come from, I’ve seen the amount of talent he’s developed to become great players. It’s a big sign of why I wanted to work under him as well.”
Both Kudus and Gibbs-White are expected to make their Tottenham debuts during the club’s first pre-season fixture against Reading on July 19, as fans look forward to an exciting new era under Frank.
