Leeds United secured the signature of Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer last week, with the striker turning down a far more lucrative proposal from Fenerbahce in order to continue his career in the Premier League.

The former Everton man arrives at Elland Road with a point to prove, and his decision reflects his desire to remain at the highest level of English football.

However, Daniel Farke has made it clear that Calvert-Lewin will not be the final attacking addition.

The German coach wants further reinforcements in the form of a versatile attacking midfielder, a winger, and another striker before the transfer window closes.

Leicester City’s Bilal El Khannouss has long been identified as Leeds’ priority target. The Yorkshire side have already held discussions with the Moroccan midfielder’s representatives and even tabled a contract offer.

They were prepared to activate his £30 million release clause, though that expired at the end of last week.

Complicating matters for Leeds, Crystal Palace have also been pushing hard to sign the 21-year-old as they look for a replacement for Eberechi Eze.

Talks between Palace and El Khannouss’ camp had advanced, but their £30m approach was rejected by Leicester on Saturday.

Palace are now weighing up alternatives. Reports from The Athletic suggest they have turned their attention to Club Brugge attacker Christos Tzolis, viewing him as a potential replacement target should negotiations for El Khannouss stall.

Tzolis enjoyed a standout season after joining Brugge from Fortuna Düsseldorf last summer, producing 21 goals and 14 assists in 56 appearances.

His strong start to the current campaign—three goals and two assists in just seven games—has only raised his profile.

The Greek forward is no stranger to English football either, having previously spent time at Norwich City.

This shift in focus from Palace could yet open the door for Leeds. While the Eagles currently hold an advantage in the race, Leeds’ groundwork on the deal remains significant.

The club have presented a clear vision of their project under Farke, which may appeal to El Khannouss should Palace decide to move for Tzolis instead.

Nonetheless, Leicester are in a strong negotiating position. With the release clause no longer valid, the Foxes can demand a premium fee for their star midfielder.

El Khannouss continues to feature in their starting XI, though he was substituted at half-time in their 2-1 loss to Preston on Saturday.

For Leeds, the opportunity is still alive. If Palace step aside, they could move decisively to strike a deal with Leicester and finally land their top target.
