Former Everton target makes surprise exit from club boardroom

Former Everton defender David Weir, who had long been admired as a potential Director of Football candidate, has left Brighton after serving in the role since April 2019. His departure came as a surprise to many, given his established position at the Seagulls.
Weir made 266 appearances for the Toffees during his playing career, and talk of a return to Goodison had surfaced before—though in an off-field capacity this time.
Everton had previously considered him as a successor to Kevin Thelwell before Thelwell’s exit to Rangers, but a deal never materialised.
Still, sections of the fanbase were convinced Weir could eventually return, especially as his Brighton stay appeared uncertain.

Given the smooth running of operations, there is no pressing need to make further structural changes, particularly to accommodate Weir.
Although Weir had reportedly wanted to remain at Brighton, his departure may leave him reflecting on what comes next.
For Everton, though, the future appears firmly rooted in the leadership model already in place, rather than revisiting past links.
