Welsh midfielder Jordan James seals season-long loan move to Leicester from Rennes, with option to buy next summer
Jordan James has made it clear that he views Leicester City as more than just a short-term chapter in his career, with the young midfielder admitting: “I want this to be my home.”
The 21-year-old has arrived on a season-long loan from Rennes, though City hold an option to make the move permanent next summer.
James is already hinting that he would welcome that outcome, insisting his immediate goal is to help the club return to the Premier League.
Reflecting on his first training session on Thursday, he said: “It’s been really good. Just being around the facility, it’s a big place, so I’m still getting used to everything.
The lads have welcomed me with open arms, and the staff have been really helpful. I want this to be my home, so I need to become familiar with the people and the surroundings, and I feel that will gradually come.
“It’s always been somewhere I wanted to be. I’ve had a good feeling about Leicester. This is a club that belongs in the Premier League, and hopefully, as a team, we can achieve that.”
James is expected to be involved in Saturday’s fixture at Oxford, though he is more likely to feature from the bench rather than start.
Having been away on international duty with Wales, he will only have had limited training time under manager Marti Cifuentes before the game.
Still, he feels ready to fit into the Spaniard’s system, with Cifuentes eager to deploy him in a role similar to the one he takes on with his national side.
That would mean starting deeper in midfield, providing balance and control, rather than playing further forward.
“I’m more than ready,” James explained. “I had a full pre-season and I’m good to go whenever I’m called upon. I’ve already had a few conversations with the manager and we’ve built a strong relationship.
The way he wants me to play is very close to the way I do with Wales, which really helps me settle in quickly.
“It’s just about fine-tuning the little details he’s asking for. Once everything comes together, I believe it will pay off for both me and the team.”
