Angelos made headlines in 1993 when he led a group that purchased the Baltimore Orioles for a record-breaking $173 million. He served as both chairman of the board and CEO during his tenure. Known for his hands-on approach and willingness to invest in talent, Angelos gradually delegated control of the club to his sons as his health declined.
Recently, a group led by David Rubenstein acquired the team for $1.725 billion, pending approval from MLB owners. Rubenstein praised Angelos for his contributions to both business and baseball, acknowledging his significant impact on the Orioles’ success over three decades.
