Karren Brady is reported to have dismissed Graham Potter over the phone on Saturday, catching him as he made his way to Rush Green for training.
The West Ham vice-chair’s decision has sparked anger among sections of the fanbase, with supporters still planning a protest during next month’s fixture against Newcastle United.
Potter’s handling of certain players had also caused friction in the squad. One notable case is Jean-Clair Todibo, who struggled for minutes under the former Chelsea boss.

Todibo, initially brought in on loan last summer before a mandatory buy clause was activated, endured a rocky start.
His error during the 5-1 defeat to Chelsea, where he was culpable for the equaliser, triggered criticism and eventually saw him dropped in favour of Max Kilman and Konstantinos Mavropanos.
The Athletic revealed that Potter had grown frustrated with Todibo’s inconsistency. The Frenchman was left out against Tottenham two weeks ago due to poor timekeeping.
After being warned to raise his standards, Todibo arrived late the very next day, leading to further exclusion. Since then, he has not been part of the matchday squads against Spurs or Crystal Palace.
Wider issues in the dressing room
Todibo was not alone in facing scrutiny. Potter had raised concerns over Jarrod Bowen’s suitability as captain, reportedly doubting his leadership credentials.
Meanwhile, summer upheaval did not help matters. Lucas Paquetá and Emerson were unsettled by transfer speculation, while the departures of senior figures Vladimir Coufal and Michail Antonio stripped the dressing room of valuable experience.
Although many players were initially supportive of Potter’s tenure, these disruptions, coupled with poor results, eroded the harmony within the camp.
By the time of his sacking, it appeared the 50-year-old had lost significant authority in the dressing room.
