As Newcastle United aim to return to winning ways in the Premier League this weekend against Nottingham Forest, one of their standout players has earned glowing praise from club legend Alan Shearer.
Howe previews crucial Nottingham Forest encounter
Eddie Howe’s side head into the weekend on a high after an emphatic 4–0 Champions League victory over Union Saint-Gilloise.

The Newcastle boss also provided an update on Tino Livramento’s injury. While the full-back avoided a serious ACL issue, he is still expected to miss around eight weeks of action.
“He went to see a specialist,” Howe explained. “The initial scan looked better than we first thought, but the specialist confirmed it’s an eight-week injury.
It’s a ligament problem, which is a blow given the busy schedule we have ahead.”

Despite that setback, Howe can take confidence from several encouraging performances in midweek.
Club-record signing Nick Woltemade scored on his Champions League debut, continuing his strong start to life on Tyneside.
Meanwhile, Anthony Elanga delivered arguably his best performance in a Newcastle shirt—catching the attention of Shearer, who was full of admiration for the winger’s blistering pace.

Reflecting on Newcastle’s dominant display, Shearer described Elanga’s speed as “unbelievable.”
The 22-year-old former Nottingham Forest man picked up the Man of the Match award after providing an assist and terrorising the opposition defence with his acceleration and movement.
“He’s rapid, isn’t he?” Shearer said on The Rest Is Football podcast. “Oh my God, he’s incredibly quick—it’s unbelievable how fast he is.”
Elanga’s pace has long been one of his standout attributes. Last season, he recorded the third-fastest sprint speed in the Premier League, behind only Matheus Nunes and Micky van de Ven.
