Leicester City’s Boubakary Soumare emerges as a potential January departure
AS Roma are reportedly confident of securing Leicester City midfielder Boubakary Soumare in a cut-price deal during the January transfer window.
Soumare’s current contract with Leicester expires at the end of the season, meaning he will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs if no extension is signed before the new year.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Roma are keen to capitalise on the situation, having tracked the French midfielder since the summer of 2024.
The report adds that Soumare could be available for under €10 million in January, as Leicester aim to avoid losing the 26-year-old for nothing next summer.
Soumare joined the Foxes with a growing reputation as one of Europe’s top young midfield talents but has found consistency difficult to maintain.
Despite this, he has evolved into a key figure for Leicester in recent campaigns.
Recently, Soumare has been benched by Marti Cifuentes, featuring for just four minutes across the last two games, though he had started the seven previous Championship fixtures, underlining his continued importance to the team.
Leicester currently occupy third place in the Championship as they target a swift return to the Premier League.
Losing Soumare midway through the season would undoubtedly weaken their midfield options, but given the club’s financial constraints, Leicester may have little choice but to accept a reasonable offer in January rather than risk seeing him leave for free when his deal expires.
