However, another major name has since emerged on their radar—Ivan Toney.

The former Brentford striker, who is currently with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli, is reportedly open to a return to England.

Multiple sources suggest Toney could leave Al-Ahli on loan in January in order to reignite his Premier League career and improve his chances of making England’s World Cup squad.

His situation has drawn the attention of several Premier League clubs, with West Ham among the most keen to explore a possible move.

Former West Ham senior scout Mick Brown, who remains well-connected at the club, confirmed to Football Insider that Toney’s potential availability has alerted the Hammers ahead of the mid-season window.

“Ivan Toney is definitely on West Ham’s radar,” Brown said.

“They know they’ll need a striker because the ones they’ve got aren’t good enough. He’d be a great fit—strong, physical, and with a proven record of scoring goals.”

Brown went on to add that financial limitations could push the club toward a temporary solution rather than a big-money transfer. “If he’s available on loan, they’ll have to consider it seriously.

There aren’t many strikers out there with his ability, and West Ham might not have much to spend on permanent deals,” he explained.

However, West Ham are not alone in their pursuit. Aston Villa are also believed to be monitoring Toney’s situation and could challenge the London club for his signature should he become available.

The final decision on Toney’s next move may rest with England manager Thomas Tuchel, who has previously suggested that the striker could still be considered for international selection despite playing in Saudi Arabia.

Yet recent reports indicate that Toney has grown frustrated with the uncertainty surrounding his role, particularly after making only a brief appearance in England’s 3-1 defeat to Senegal—the sole loss Tuchel has suffered since taking charge.

Determined to revive his international prospects ahead of the World Cup, Toney is reportedly eager to return to the Premier League, where regular game time could strengthen his case for selection.

With Harry Kane firmly established as England’s number one striker and Ollie Watkins performing admirably as backup, competition remains fierce.
