Leicester City remain firmly in contention for automatic promotion this season, and a few smart January additions could make all the difference — with Crystal Palace forward Romain Esse emerging as a player they should strongly consider targeting.

A difficult Premier League transition has seen Esse’s opportunities dry up, highlighted by being subbed off after coming on in a draw at Liverpool last season.
Despite summer departures of key attackers like Matheus Franca and Eberechi Eze, Esse has slipped further down the hierarchy at Selhurst Park, with Justin Devenny, Yeremy Pino, Ismaila Sarr, and even Daichi Kamada preferred in his favoured roles.
He was also an unused substitute in Palace’s Europa Conference League win over Dynamo Kyiv, reinforcing fears he moved to the top flight too early.
Leicester could now capitalise by pursuing Esse in January. His technical ability, versatility — he can play on either flank or centrally — and potential ceiling make him an attractive fit for Cifuentes’ possession-based system.
With Patson Daka misfiring up front, makeshift ‘number tens’ like Jordan James and Bobby Decordova-Reid filling gaps, and no standout performer on the left wing, Leicester’s attack is crying out for invention.
Esse’s arrival could inject much-needed flair and unpredictability to support Fatawu and strengthen the Foxes’ promotion push.
Having scored four goals and added an assist in the first half of last season for Millwall, Esse now needs regular football to rebuild confidence — and Leicester could be the perfect stage for him to reignite his promise and provide that missing spark in the final third.
