Jake Evans signs first professional contract as Leicester City starlet targets first-team breakthrough after dazzling Under-21 form
Leicester City have secured the future of one of their brightest young talents, with Jake Evans signing his first professional contract at the club.
Evans, who turned 17 in August, made headlines last season when he became the sixth-youngest player in Leicester’s history to make a senior debut.
The versatile forward, capable of playing through the middle or on either flank, has yet to feature under Marti Cifuentes this season but continues to impress at youth level, scoring five goals in his last five appearances for the Under-21s.
During the previous campaign, Evans became the youngest player to reach double figures in Premier League 2 since the division’s reformatting — a record that underlined his potential.
His prolific form earned him recognition from then-manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, who handed the youngster four substitute appearances for the first team.
Following Leicester’s relegation, many expected Evans to play a bigger role in the senior squad.
Although he featured in pre-season, first-team minutes have yet to materialise under Cifuentes.
Speaking recently, the City boss praised Evans’ attitude and development, saying:
“It’s good we have expectations for our young players. Every player develops differently. Jake did the full pre-season with us and trains often with the first team.
We’re tracking his progress closely. I believe in his qualities — it’s about showing what we need to see in the Under-21s, and the opportunities will come.”
Evans is part of an exciting generation emerging from Leicester’s academy, alongside Jeremy Monga and Louis Page.
Page signed his professional contract earlier in the summer, while Monga agreed a scholarship that will convert into a professional deal when he turns 17 next July.
