However, that does not mean Everton are idle, as work continues behind the scenes to strengthen the squad ahead of the January transfer window.
David Moyes and his recruitment team are reportedly closing in on their first signing of the winter window, with talks already in progress over a potential deal.
According to Africa Foot, Everton are on the verge of completing the signing of Nice defender Kojo Peprah Oppong for a fee of around £6.9 million.
The move comes as Everton continue to struggle with defensive depth due to Jarrad Branthwaite’s ongoing hamstring injury, which recently required surgery.
With the 22-year-old sidelined for an extended period, Moyes is keen to reinforce his backline, and Oppong appears to be the chosen solution.
Negotiations are said to be well advanced, with Everton already discussing personal terms with the 21-year-old’s representatives.
The proposed deal would see the Ghanaian sign a five-year contract, believed to be worth more than £38,000 per week.
Nice are reportedly open to the transfer, on the condition that Oppong remains with the French club on loan for the rest of the season.
If that arrangement is agreed upon, there seems to be little preventing the move from being finalised.

Everton’s pursuit of Oppong reflects their focus on young, high-upside defenders.
The Ghanaian centre-back has made a swift rise in European football, starting seven of Nice’s first eight Ligue 1 matches this season.
Before his move to France in the summer, he played for IFK Norrköping in Sweden, where he made 15 appearances during the first half of their campaign and established himself as a standout performer.
At just 21, Oppong has already earned international recognition, making his senior debut for Ghana during the recent international break in a World Cup qualifying win over Comoros.
Should the deal go through, Everton fans may have to wait until next season to see him in action.
Nonetheless, his rapid development and growing reputation suggest that the club could be securing a long-term defensive asset with significant potential.
