Adam Aznou weighing up Everton exit ahead of the January transfer window, just months after his summer arrival
Everton secured the signing of Adam Aznou from Bayern Munich in an £8 million deal during the summer, but the young defender has struggled for first-team opportunities since his move to Merseyside.
Manager David Moyes has urged the 19-year-old to improve physically before he can realistically challenge Vitalii Mykolenko for a starting role.
However, it now appears the former Barcelona academy product is growing frustrated with his lack of game time at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
According to a report from Africa Foot on 26 October, Aznou is seriously considering a loan move in the upcoming January transfer window, with a return to La Liga being the most likely option.
Getafe, who were close to signing him in the summer, are reportedly leading the race, and Everton are understood to be open to a temporary deal.
Aznou recently featured in Everton’s Under-21s defeat to Bradford on 14 October, but his performance failed to push him any closer to Moyes’ senior squad.
Despite his need for regular football to aid his development, loaning him out may not be the most practical choice for the Toffees.
Everton currently lack depth at left-back, and allowing Aznou to depart would leave them vulnerable in a key defensive position.
Moyes has already had to deploy midfielder James Garner as cover when Mykolenko was sidelined through injury, further underlining the shortage of natural options.
Aznou’s time at Everton has yet to take off. He has made no senior appearances so far, featuring only twice for the Under-21s in the EFL Trophy.
Having arrived with a strong pedigree from Barcelona and Bayern Munich, the Spaniard has yet to justify his early reputation.
Given Everton’s limited squad depth and Aznou’s long-term potential, Moyes would be wise to keep him within the setup.
Allowing the teenager to leave on loan this winter would be a short-sighted move that could weaken the team’s options and hinder his gradual integration into Premier League football.
