Leicester City’s struggles continue under Marti Cifuentes as the Foxes suffer three consecutive defeats.
Leicester City’s strong start to the Championship campaign has faded, with their 2–0 home defeat to Blackburn Rovers marking a slide into the bottom half for the first time this season.
Manager Carlos Cifuentes, who took charge following relegation from the Premier League, reshaped the squad during the summer, overseeing a major overhaul that saw several key players depart.

The club also underwent significant change in the goalkeeping department, as Mads Hermansen, Daniel Iversen, and Danny Ward all moved on.
Hermansen, a standout performer in Leicester’s title-winning 2023/24 campaign under Enzo Maresca, joined West Ham United for £20 million but has endured an underwhelming start there.
Cifuentes has since relied on Jakub Stolarczyk, veteran Asmir Begovic, and Francisco Vieites—both of whom joined on free transfers amid Leicester’s financial uncertainty.
With the January window approaching, reports suggest Leicester are eyeing Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson on loan.
Though not a top priority, Football League World pundit Louchlainn Martin supports the idea, arguing that the Foxes need a more dependable number one to aid their promotion push.
Patterson, 25, has been a mainstay at Sunderland since breaking through under Alex Neil in 2021/22, earning a reputation as one of the EFL’s most promising young keepers.
Despite a few errors, he helped the Black Cats secure promotion to the Premier League with 14 clean sheets in 45 games last season.
However, he has since lost his starting spot to Robin Roefs, making just one appearance this term.
Leicester are reportedly ahead of Southampton in the race for his signature. Martin praised the potential move, saying Stolarczyk “hasn’t been bad” but lacks the consistency needed for a promotion-winning side.
Begovic and Vieites, he added, are not significant upgrades. While Martin believes a new striker, left-back, and winger should take priority, he acknowledges that Patterson would still be “a smart addition” given his experience and affordable wages—around £20,000 per week.
With promotion ambitions at stake, Leicester’s interest in Patterson represents a pragmatic attempt to shore up a vulnerable position while balancing finances and squad depth.
