Spurs ready to offload Richarlison in January with the forward not viewed as the fix for their attacking struggles.
Sources have informed Football Insider that Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to strengthen their attacking options in the January transfer window, following ongoing difficulties converting chances this season.
In order to facilitate these incoming signings, both Richarlison and Dominic Solanke may be moved on, with Thomas Frank keen to reshape his frontline and find a more reliable formula in attack.
Uncertainty continues to surround Richarlison’s future at Spurs, and it is understood that Everton would be open to re-signing the Brazilian should he become surplus to requirements in North London.
Despite his work rate and contribution, Richarlison is not seen as the ideal fit for the central striker role Tottenham require.
As discussed on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, he is not viewed internally as the long-term solution to the club’s attacking shortcomings.
There is cautious optimism, however, that Randal Kolo Muani could evolve into the central figure Tottenham need.
After netting his first goals for the club against PSG on 26 November, he has shown signs of being capable of leading the line should Spurs fail to secure a new forward in January.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I noted that although Richarlison has delivered six goals and two assists in 20 appearances across all competitions this season, Tottenham still appear unconvinced that he is the answer.
His strengths arguably lie wider on the pitch rather than operating as a traditional number nine.
With Solanke also having played a minimal role under Frank due to injury problems, Spurs’ need for a specialist striker has become more pressing.
Should Spurs decide to cash in on Richarlison, identifying and securing a replacement quickly will be essential. One long-linked option, Ivan Toney, now seems an increasingly unlikely arrival.
Sources have indicated that the forward is enjoying life in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli and, at 28, is in no rush to return to the Premier League.
His substantial wages also present a major obstacle that Tottenham would struggle to overcome.
Although Toney and Frank shared a highly productive partnership during their time together at Brentford, the prospect of a reunion at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium appears to be fading, leaving the club to continue exploring alternative attacking targets for the upcoming window.
