Barcelona are believed to have decided against offering the Denmark international a new contract, with his current deal at Camp Nou due to expire in June.
As a result, both Everton and Palace could prepare formal approaches for the 29-year-old centre-back, who already boasts 93 Premier League appearances from his time in English football.
Christensen’s pedigree is underlined by the esteem in which he was held at Chelsea, where former manager Antonio Conte once earmarked him as a future club captain.
Speaking to Sky Sports in 2018, Conte said he trusted Christensen completely and felt the defender represented both the present and future of the club, adding that he possessed the qualities required to lead the team.
