Everton have reportedly entered the competition to secure the signature of a Premier League star who is expected to seek a move away from his current club once the January transfer window opens.
The Toffees finally appear to have turned a corner with their recruitment strategy following a successful summer.
After several seasons blighted by disappointing signings, Everton struck gold by bringing in the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jack Grealish, both of whom have flourished under the guidance of David Moyes and played key roles in the team’s resurgence.
Grealish, in particular, has rediscovered his best form since arriving on loan from Manchester City.
The England international looks rejuvenated, enjoying his football again after a difficult spell at the Etihad Stadium.
While there is often a reluctance to grow attached to loan players, Grealish has quickly become a fan favourite on Merseyside and appears to feel equally at home at Goodison Park.
Speaking recently, Grealish admitted how strong the connection has been.
He explained that he has always enjoyed a close relationship with supporters wherever he has played, but described his bond with Everton fans as special.
He also revealed that regular conversations with Moyes over FaceTime during the summer convinced him the move was right, crediting the manager for helping him regain confidence and enjoyment in both training and matches.
With that success in mind, Everton’s owners, The Friedkin Group, are reportedly keen to repeat the formula by targeting more high-profile talents who are struggling for opportunities at elite Premier League clubs.
Their approach appears focused on identifying players with untapped potential who simply need regular football to reignite their careers.
As January approaches, Everton have already been linked with Chelsea youngster Tyrique George, who has slipped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge this season.
The Toffees are believed to be monitoring his situation closely and could pounce if a deal becomes feasible.
However, George is not the only name under consideration.
Reports from Italy, via Il Mattino and relayed by CN24 and Sport Witness, suggest Everton have now joined the race to sign Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo on loan.
The highly rated academy graduate is said to be open to a temporary move away from Old Trafford, and Everton could provide the platform he needs.
Mainoo’s situation has changed dramatically since Ruben Amorim’s arrival at United. Once trusted by Erik ten Hag and even a goalscorer in an FA Cup final against Manchester City, the 20-year-old has found himself reduced to a peripheral figure.
A move to Everton could allow Moyes to turn Amorim’s cast-off into a major January coup, potentially reviving the form that once saw Mainoo likened to Zinedine Zidane and valued at £79 million.
