Everton remain strongly linked with a January move for Roma striker Artem Dovbyk.
David Moyes has made Artem Dovbyk a leading target as Everton look to strengthen their attack with an upgrade on Thierno Barry and Beto ahead of the January window.
There is growing belief that Beto could be included as part of any deal, with discussions centring on a possible swap between Everton and Roma, both of which are owned by the Friedkin Group.
Dovbyk lifted the Danish Superliga title with Midtjylland back in 2018, but he is best known for his spell in Italy with Roma.
The Ukraine international enjoyed a solid Serie A campaign last season, scoring 12 goals and registering two assists across 32 league appearances.
However, his output has dipped this term, with just two goals and one assist from 10 matches so far.
Roma want replacement lined up before agreeing exit
It is becoming increasingly clear that any move for Dovbyk may hinge on Everton’s willingness to include Beto in a swap arrangement.
According to Corriere dello Sport’s print edition on Tuesday, Roma “accept the risk is real” when it comes to Dovbyk leaving, but only if they can secure an alternative first.
Roma are determined to bring in a replacement striker before sanctioning any departure, meaning a potential transfer to Everton could be delayed until that condition is met.
Gian Piero Gasperini has handed Dovbyk just three league starts this season, yet the lack of comparable options has left Roma short in attack.
Friedkin Group influence could smooth negotiations
Everton are keen to add a new forward as soon as the window opens on 1 January, given the limited goal threat offered by Barry and Beto.
Still, the club may be prepared to wait until later in the window if it ensures the right signing arrives.
For now, it appears Everton may have to wait for Roma to secure a replacement before Dovbyk is given the green light to leave, while alternative targets remain under consideration.
Supporters will mainly focus on the club delivering one proven, dynamic attacker capable of improving results and providing consistent goals during the second half of the season.
