Everton remain hopeful of landing Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson despite reports linking him with a move to Crystal Palace.
David Moyes is planning to be busy during the January transfer window as he looks to strengthen Everton’s squad after a respectable first half of the Premier League season.
The Toffees’ 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night lifted them up to eighth place in the table after 19 matches, putting them firmly in the mix heading into the second half of the campaign.
With the remaining 19 league fixtures now in sight and the transfer window open, Moyes has an opportunity to fine-tune his squad and address areas he feels still need improvement.
Everton have been handed a potential boost in their pursuit of Brennan Johnson, with reports suggesting the forward is uncertain about his future at Tottenham.
Crystal Palace are widely believed to have agreed a £35million deal with Spurs for the Wales international.
However, a report from the Daily Mail on Thursday claims Johnson is “unsure about leaving” the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, despite not featuring prominently in Thomas Frank’s plans.
Everton have previously been linked with the 24-year-old, while Fabrizio Romano has also named Sunderland and Bournemouth as possible suitors.
The Mail adds that although Moyes’ main focus this month is on recruiting a striker and a right-back, Johnson’s situation has not gone unnoticed.
Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen has also been discussed internally at Finch Farm, though his performances this season have reportedly failed to fully convince.
Ivan Toney appears to be an unlikely option due to his high wage demands, while Roma striker Artem Dovbyk is viewed as a more attainable target, helped by the Friedkin Group’s connections with the Italian club.
Elsewhere, Dwight McNeil continues to attract interest from other sides, but it is understood Moyes is reluctant to sanction the winger’s departure at this stage of the season.
A host of other names have been linked with moves to Goodison Park.
Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo and Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips have both been mentioned, along with Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney.
Atletico Madrid and England international Conor Gallagher is another player reportedly admired by Everton.
Despite those links, the Mail reports that adding midfield reinforcements is not currently a priority for Moyes.
According to BBC Sport, Everton are also exploring a move for Botafogo right-back Vitinho as they seek cover following Seamus Coleman’s injury and Nathan Patterson’s uncertain status.
The coming weeks should clarify Everton’s ambitions.
