Everton are set for an active January transfer window as the market opens.
David Moyes is keen to strengthen his Everton squad and has identified the need for a new striker as a top priority.
The Toffees boss has reportedly drawn up a three-man shortlist that includes Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Roma forward Artem Dovbyk and Celta Vigo attacker Jørgen Strand Larsen, as he looks to add more cutting edge in the final third.
However, attacking reinforcements are not the only area under consideration.
Journalist Alan Myers has suggested that Moyes is also targeting additions in midfield and at full-back, underlining the manager’s desire to improve depth and quality across several key positions.
Alongside potential incomings, Everton are also focused on tying down important members of their current squad.
It is understood that James Garner is set to sign a new contract later this month, a move that would be welcomed by supporters given his growing importance in the side.
The club are also expected to take care of another contractual matter by activating a one-year extension for a first-team player whose current deal is approaching its end.
That player is believed to be Vitaliy Mykolenko, who has been in negotiations with the club since last summer.
According to reports from Ukrainian outlet Sport Express, Everton are planning to extend Mykolenko’s contract until 2027, despite interest from abroad.
Turkish heavyweights Galatasaray have been monitoring the situation closely and were hoping to open discussions with the left-back during this transfer window.
However, Mykolenko is said to have no desire to leave the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The 51-cap Ukraine international wants to continue playing in one of Europe’s top five leagues and does not see the Turkish Super Lig as the right move at this stage of his career.
Moyes is also believed to be keen on keeping him, even with rumours linking Antonee Robinson with a return to Merseyside.
Despite the proposed extension, Everton may still look to strengthen at left-back. Manchester City defender Nathan Aké has once again been linked with a move, having been a target in the previous window.
Adam Aznou is another option for the future, although a loan move could come first, with Ajax reportedly interested.
With transfer plans and contract decisions unfolding, the coming weeks promise to be crucial for Everton.
