Tottenham Hotspur currently rely on Guglielmo Vicario as their undisputed first-choice goalkeeper, with Antonin Kinsky brought in last winter to provide competition and cover for the Italian.

Academy product Brandon Austin completes the senior goalkeeping group as the third option.

Despite his status, Vicario has endured a difficult spell, struggling to deliver consistent performances and making a number of costly, high-profile mistakes.

Kinsky, meanwhile, has been unable to apply genuine pressure for the number one role, leaving Spurs considering alternative solutions between the posts.

According to Fichajes, head coach Thomas Frank is eager to recruit a new goalkeeper capable of challenging Vicario directly, and Tottenham have earmarked Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin as a leading target.

The Ukrainian has found opportunities limited at the Santiago Bernabéu and is understood to be open to a move in order to secure regular football and continue his development.

Although Lunin remains under contract with Los Blancos until 2030, Real Madrid are prepared to listen to offers and have reportedly placed a £22 million valuation on their deputy goalkeeper.

That fee reflects both his age and experience at the highest level.

Tottenham are said to be leading the race for Lunin’s signature, but they face competition from fellow Premier League sides Nottingham Forest and Brighton and Hove Albion, who are also monitoring his situation closely.

Manchester United were previously credited with an interest in Lunin last summer before opting to sign Senne Lammens instead, and it is unclear whether they will reignite their pursuit of the Real Madrid stopper.

During Thibaut Courtois’ lengthy injury absence two seasons ago, Lunin enjoyed an extended run in Carlo Ancelotti’s side, playing a key role as Madrid lifted both the Champions League and La Liga titles.

Standing at 6ft 3in and still only 26, he possesses significant upside and could prove a smart long-term addition for Spurs.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can tempt the Ukrainian international away from Spain in January or if a summer move becomes more realistic.
