Newcastle United appear to be edging closer to rediscovering their best form, with three consecutive Premier League victories offering renewed optimism on Tyneside.

Intermediaries are believed to be in discussions with a number of clubs as they attempt to engineer a move for the Norwegian during the January window.

Strand Larsen, now 25, was heavily linked with a switch to Tyneside last summer, only for Wolves to reject a £50 million bid from Newcastle.

Circumstances have since changed, with Wolves enduring a difficult campaign and all parties seemingly open to parting ways.

As a result, the striker’s valuation has dropped to a more attainable £40 million, making a deal more realistic.

Touted as part of an “incredible” new generation of Norwegian talent by respected scout Jacek Kulig, Strand Larsen demonstrated his Premier League pedigree last season by scoring 14 goals in 35 appearances.

This term, however, he has struggled to make a similar impact, often leading the line for a side lacking cohesion and confidence.

Even so, interest in the forward remains strong, and Newcastle may believe they can unlock his potential within a more stable and ambitious environment.

While neither Strand Larsen nor Wissa is enjoying a prolific campaign, a comparison of their respective performances during the 2024/25 season highlights why the Wolves man continues to attract attention.

Although other targets such as Woltemade may offer superior technical qualities, the young German remains raw and inconsistent.

In contrast, Strand Larsen’s physical presence, strength, and hold-up play could make him an ideal focal point for Howe’s evolving project.

Indeed, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer previously described him as a “nuisance” to play against, praising his robustness and ability to occupy defenders.

Despite a difficult league season, Strand Larsen recently reminded observers of his natural goalscoring instincts by netting a hat-trick against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup.

While Wissa should not be written off prematurely, Newcastle’s lack of attacking spark is undeniable—and having monitored Strand Larsen closely in the past, this may finally be the right moment to make their move.
