Former Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin has officially parted ways with Club América and is now a free agent, following a racist incident involving his children, which the Mexican club confirmed on Saturday.
The 28-year-old attacker joined Club América on a two-year contract last August but made just 15 appearances before his departure was announced shortly after the club’s 2-0 victory over Necaxa.
The circumstances surrounding his exit were later clarified by head coach André Jardine, who revealed that the decision stemmed from repeated acts of racism directed at Saint-Maximin’s daughters.
Speaking after the match, Jardine condemned the behaviour in strong terms.
He confirmed that the incidents had occurred more than once and stressed that the club would not tolerate any form of discrimination.
Jardine added that Club América fully denounced what had happened and supported the player and his family.
Saint-Maximin also addressed the situation publicly through a statement shared on social media, choosing to focus on the emotional toll it had taken on his family rather than himself.
The French winger explained that personal attacks did not affect him, but any form of abuse directed at his children crossed an unacceptable line.
He highlighted that the real issue was not skin colour, but the mindset of those responsible, insisting that hatred and discrimination had no place in society.
Saint-Maximin made it clear that his decision to leave the club was driven entirely by the need to protect his children and ensure they grow up in a safe and respectful environment.
The former Magpies star also underlined that intimidation would not influence his actions. He stated that no individual or threat could deter him from defending his family, adding that the only thing he feared was God.
Club América later released an official statement reaffirming its position, reiterating its firm opposition to any form of discrimination or violence that undermines human dignity.
The club expressed full solidarity with Saint-Maximin and his family, confirming that his contract had been terminated.
Saint-Maximin had been living in Mexico with his wife and three children. Prior to his move abroad, he spent four seasons at Newcastle United after joining from Nice in 2019, registering 13 goals in 124 appearances.
Now a free agent, he is eligible to sign for another club for the remainder of the season, although no Newcastle approach had been reported as of Sunday evening.
