New Tottenham Hotspur signing James Wilson has been included in the matchday squad for the first time, earning a place on the bench for the north London derby against Arsenal.
The 18-year-old forward completed a January loan switch from Heart of Midlothian F.C. to Tottenham Hotspur F.C., despite also holding discussions with Arsenal F.C. before making his decision.
His rapid progress in north London has now been rewarded with senior involvement on one of the club’s biggest occasions.
Wilson recently opened his account in a Spurs shirt by scoring for the Under-21s in their clash with Norwich City F.C. earlier this week.
That performance clearly caught the attention of head coach Igor Tudor, who has handed the teenager a spot among the substitutes.
Having trained with the first team throughout the week, Wilson’s promotion comes at a time when Spurs are dealing with a significant injury crisis.
His inclusion underlines the club’s willingness to place faith in emerging talent when senior options are limited.
After Wilson’s goal for the Under-21s, youth coach Wayne Burnett praised the striker’s work ethic and natural eye for goal.
Burnett highlighted the youngster’s determination, technical ability and instinct to attack the penalty area, expressing confidence that he will continue to find the net regularly.
Wilson is not the only academy prospect named on the bench, with Callum Olusesi, Luca Williams-Barnett and James Rowswell also providing youthful backup as Spurs look to navigate a challenging period.
