Despite their success in identifying talented players, Leeds United arguably could have achieved far more during the transfer window.

The Whites missed out on several high-quality attacking targets, leaving supporters wondering what might have been.

Players such as Rodrigo Muniz, Facundo Buonanotte and Harry Wilson were all heavily linked with moves to Elland Road, but none of those deals materialised.

Leeds saw an early bid for Muniz rejected, while Buonanotte opted to join Chelsea on loan instead. Meanwhile, a dramatic deadline-day pursuit of Wilson collapsed after Fulham decided against sanctioning the transfer.

Although Leeds managed to strengthen in certain areas, their inability to land some of their priority attacking targets was seen as a major frustration.

One player who also slipped away from Leeds last summer was Igor Paixao.

The Brazilian winger emerged as a serious option for the Whites after an outstanding campaign with Feyenoord, where he registered 18 goals and 14 assists across all competitions.

His performances attracted attention from several clubs around Europe, with Leeds among the sides eager to secure his signature.

The 49ers-backed hierarchy reportedly approached Paixao’s representatives with a proposal, hoping to convince him to move to Elland Road.

However, the winger ultimately chose a switch to Marseille in Ligue 1 instead.

Interestingly, Leeds could now be handed another opportunity to sign the 24-year-old this summer.

According to reports from FootMercato, Marseille are currently facing major financial issues after missing out on qualification for the Champions League.

The French side were already struggling financially last season, and the situation is expected to worsen in the coming months.

French football’s financial watchdog, the DNCG, are due to inspect Marseille’s accounts soon, meaning the club may be forced into significant player sales before June 30th in order to balance the books.

Reports suggest several first-team stars, including Paixao, could be placed on the market.

Despite not always being Marseille’s first-choice attacker this season, Paixao still produced an impressive return of 12 goals and six assists in all competitions. His direct style, pace and eye for goal would make him an excellent fit for Leeds United.

With questions remaining over the long-term quality of Dan James and Wilfried Gnonto, Paixao could represent a major upgrade, especially if Marseille are forced to sell at a reduced price.
