Aston Villa Target Crysencio Summerville as Potential Morgan Rogers Replacement

Aston Villa could be forced to enter the transfer market for a high-profile attacking signing this summer amid growing uncertainty surrounding Morgan Rogers’ future.

The England international has attracted strong interest from Premier League champions Arsenal, with Villa reportedly valuing the 23-year-old at £100 million.

Rogers, currently representing England at the World Cup, is believed to be open to a move to the Emirates Stadium, where he would join fellow internationals Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka.

However, any potential transfer would require a bid matching Villa’s substantial valuation.

If sold, Rogers would become only the second Aston Villa player to command a £100 million fee, following Jack Grealish’s record-breaking move to Manchester City in 2021.

With that possibility in mind, Villa are reportedly exploring alternatives and have identified West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville as a leading target.

According to reports, Villa have officially joined both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the race for the Dutch international.

West Ham are believed to be demanding at least £43 million for the former Leeds United star, despite the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

The competition for Summerville’s signature is expected to be fierce, with European champions Paris Saint-Germain also monitoring the 24-year-old.

Nevertheless, Villa may view him as an ideal addition due to his playing style and attacking qualities.

Under Unai Emery, Villa rely heavily on quick transitions and dynamic attacking midfielders operating behind striker Ollie Watkins.

Summerville’s pace, dribbling ability and direct approach make him a strong fit for that system.

The Dutch winger earned a reputation as one of the league’s most difficult players to stop last season, drawing more fouls than any other Premier League winger.

His ability to carry the ball forward and beat defenders mirrors the qualities that made Grealish so influential during his time at Villa Park.

Summerville has also shown his effectiveness in front of goal. He scored five Premier League goals for West Ham last season and has made a strong impression for the Netherlands at the World Cup.

Prior to joining West Ham, he enjoyed a remarkable 2023/24 Championship campaign with Leeds United, recording 19 goals and nine assists.

Should Rogers depart, Summerville appears to be a ready-made replacement capable of providing creativity, directness and attacking output.

However, Aston Villa will need to overcome significant competition from Arsenal and PSG if they are to secure the winger’s signature this summer.
