Enzo Maresca left Leicester City for Chelsea on Monday, signing a five-year contract to replace Mauricio Pochettino. Under Maresca, Leicester won the Championship this season, but they are now seeking a new manager to ensure their stability in the Premier League next term.
On Tuesday, former Manchester United defender Steve Bruce appeared on talkSPORT’s Breakfast show. He was quickly asked if he would be interested in the Leicester job. When Leicester fan Nigel inquired if Bruce would be keen or deterred by a potential points deduction, Bruce expressed his interest.
“A points deduction wouldn’t put me off,” Bruce responded with a smile. “Leicester, you know where I am! What a wonderful opportunity that is. Leicester has been a great club in recent years, especially with their fairy tale Premier League win a few years ago.”
Bruce’s last managerial role ended in 2022 when he left West Bromwich Albion after eight months, with the team at its lowest league position in over two decades. Before his stint at the Hawthorns, Bruce managed several clubs including Newcastle, Sheffield Wednesday, Aston Villa, Hull, Sunderland, Wigan, and Birmingham.
Now, Bruce is open to various roles in football beyond being the main manager at a club. “I’m looking to do something,” he said, reflecting on his year-long break from football.
He elaborated, “Either management, or working alongside somebody. I’d also like to think that if a chairman asked me a question on football, I’d give him a knowledgeable answer. I’ve been in football a long time. But I’ve had a long winter without work, so doing something is the next step.”
