Luka Vuskovic, a promising defender set to join Tottenham, is nearing a loan deal with Belgian club Westerlo, potentially positioning him for a spot in Spurs’ starting lineup next season.
At 17, Vuskovic and Tottenham reached a £12 million agreement in September, leading to a five-year contract. The plan is for him to move from Hajduk Split to Tottenham in 2025.
Following the agreement, Vuskovic could not play for Hajduk and instead secured a January loan to Polish team Radomiak Radom. He made 14 crucial appearances for Radomiak in the second half of the last season.
After returning to Hajduk, Vuskovic is expected to spend another loan period away from the Croatian club. According to Fabrizio Romano (via Football London), Vuskovic is likely to join Westerlo.
Reports highlight the importance of GBE (Governing Body Endorsement) points, as the UK employs a points-based system for player eligibility. The cutoff is 15 points, and leagues in Belgium and the Netherlands are particularly valuable for point accumulation. Vuskovic currently has four points. FIFA regulations prevent Vuskovic from signing with Spurs until February next year, when he turns 18.
This loan move would be a strategic decision, recognizing Vuskovic’s growth and significant potential at 17. Belgium offers a competitive league with clubs that regularly compete in European tournaments.
