Leeds United’s financial situation is not as dire as previously reported, according to Ben Jacobs.
The Daily Mail reported on 16 May that Leeds would need to raise £100 million if they failed to return to the Premier League. However, Jacobs told Give Me Sport on 17 June that this figure is exaggerated due to the already agreed sales of Luis Sinisterra and Tyler Adams.
Jacobs stated, “It’s widely reported they need to bring in £100 million to balance the books. My understanding is that number may be high and doesn’t account for the forthcoming financial year. Leeds can declare the sales of Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra, reducing the required funds from £100 million.”
This news is a significant boost for Daniel Farke and the club. If Leeds can deduct the sales of Adams and Sinisterra from the reported £100 million total, the amount they need to raise can be substantially reduced.
According to BBC Sport on 9 February, Sinisterra joined AFC Bournemouth for £20 million. Adams also moved to the Vitality Stadium, with BBC Sport reporting on 20 August that the fee was over £20 million. These sales represent over £40 million, a significant contribution toward the £100 million reportedly needed at Elland Road.
This financial relief means Farke might be able to retain an extra player or two, aiding his efforts to guide Leeds back to the Premier League next season.
