Maddison’s Three-Word Reaction Speaks Volumes After Premier League Update

Tottenham Hotspur have issued a playful apology to midfielder James Maddison following his humorous three-word response to the club’s Instagram post after the Premier League fixtures were released.

Spurs learned their 2024/25 Premier League schedule on Tuesday morning, starting their campaign with a visit to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday, August 19, with an 8pm kickoff.

This opening match will mark Maddison’s first return to his former club since he joined Tottenham last summer. It will also be the first encounter for former Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks against Spurs since he moved to Leicester.

Upon discovering their opening fixture at Leicester, Spurs shared a post on Instagram highlighting a memorable recent match at the King Power Stadium. In January 2022, Tottenham were trailing 2-1 after Maddison scored for Leicester in the 76th minute. The score remained the same until Steven Bergwijn equalized in the 95th minute, and then dramatically secured a victory for Spurs with another goal in the 97th minute.

The post was captioned, “Run it back,” prompting Maddison to comment, “No need admin.” In response, Spurs offered a lighthearted apology with a simple, “Sorry xx,” while Bergwijn added two eye emojis to the comment section.

Maddison’s journey at Leicester began in 2018 when he joined from Norwich City. During his five-year tenure, he made 208 appearances, scored 55 goals, and provided 39 assists.

The midfielder, aiming to make an impact in the upcoming season, expressed his disappointment at being left out of the England squad for the Euro 2024 finals. Reflecting on the omission, Maddison said, “Devastated doesn’t quite cut it. I trained well and worked hard all week but if I’m honest with myself, my form for Spurs when coming back from injury in the second half of the season probably wasn’t at the levels I had set which gave Gareth a decision to make. I still thought there would be a space for me in a 26-man squad as I feel I bring something different & had been a mainstay in this whole qualifying campaign for Euro 2024 in Germany but the manager has made the decision and I have to respect that. I’ll be back, I have no doubt.”
