Former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper is in advanced negotiations to take over at Leicester City. Cooper has been unemployed since leaving Forest in December but is now a leading candidate to replace Enzo Maresca at the King Power Stadium, according to the PA news agency.
Maresca departed from Leicester after securing promotion to the Premier League, moving on to Chelsea following Mauricio Pochettino’s exit from the club at the season’s end.
Cooper has been patiently waiting for the right opportunity after an emotional departure from Nottingham Forest, where he achieved a significant milestone by returning the team to the Premier League after 23 years and securing their position in the league.
The Leicester position comes with its challenges, as the club faces a potential points deduction and may need to offload players over the summer to meet the Premier League’s profit and sustainability requirements.
Other candidates considered for the role include former Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter and West Brom’s Carlos Corberan.
