In his first move since being appointed Leicester City manager, Steve Cooper has reportedly already targeted his first summer recruit.
The Welshman succeeded Enzo Maresca after a three-week selection process, edging out Graham Potter for the role. This marks Cooper’s return to Premier League management after parting ways with Nottingham Forest six months ago. Now, he faces the significant challenge of ensuring Leicester City’s first campaign back in the top-flight is successful.
Marginal differences can determine a team’s Premier League survival, and Cooper is reportedly taking steps to optimize Leicester’s set-piece performance. The former Reading and Leeds United player, who reportedly leaves his role at Norwich City, is highly regarded in the industry. Leicester City has reportedly fended off interest from Brentford, whose set-piece coach Bernardo Cueva will move to Chelsea, with the club’s training facilities being a major draw.
Last season, Norwich City was the third-best attacking side from set-pieces in the Championship, scoring 18 goals and conceding 12. In contrast, Leicester City scored only 11 and conceded 13.
Earlier this month, Enzo Maresca took six coaches with him to Chelsea, meaning Cooper must effectively rebuild the coaching staff from scratch.
