Tottenham Hotspur are in the transfer market for a striker as they aim to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
Former Tottenham star Alan Hutton believes English striker Ivan Toney is the ideal replacement for Harry Kane, who left the club last summer. Brentford would reluctantly sell Toney if Spurs meet their valuation.
Toney signaled a possible departure by changing his agent earlier this year, expressing his desire to “play for a big club and win titles.”
Brentford manager Thomas Frank has acknowledged that ‘every player has a price’, even though he would prefer to keep Toney, who set a Championship record with 31 goals in 2021.
Since moving to the Premier League, Toney has been instrumental for the Bees, who have consistently performed above expectations.
With the new season approaching, Spurs will compete in the Europa League, along with the League Cup, FA Cup, and the Premier League. Hutton believes signing Toney is essential. He told Best Online Poker Sites: “If Spurs want to challenge for the top four, they need a striker. Ivan Toney would be my top choice. While Dominic Solanke has been mentioned, I think Toney offers something different – he plays as if he’s bulletproof.”
“Having lost Harry Kane, signing Toney this summer could elevate Spurs. Regarding other positions, Ange Postecoglou should focus on strengthening the squad, such as acquiring a backup left-back, even though Destiny Udogie has been excellent. There are just a few areas within the squad that need reinforcement.”
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is also a fan of the Brentford striker, praising him after his side’s narrow 1-0 win over Brentford in February. Guardiola said: “They have the ability with Ivan Toney – he’s a master player, a really good player. Besides that, they’re excellent at free-kicks, throw-ins, and so on.”
