OPINION: Daniel Farke could face pressure from Leeds United’s first eight games if the challenging schedule proves tough

Leeds returned to the Championship last season and narrowly missed securing an immediate return to the Premier League, falling short of the top two and losing in the playoff final to Southampton.

This second season sees a decline in the overall standard of the division, but there’s significant pressure on the 49ers and Daniel Farke to achieve promotion.

The first eight games present a formidable challenge for Leeds:

– August 24: Sheffield Wednesday (A)

– September 14: Burnley (H)

It’s difficult to predict the outcomes of these opening matches, as the composition of the Leeds squad and their opponents is still uncertain.

However, the clear objective this season is securing promotion through the top two positions.

Last season, Farke approached it as an opportunity, expressing satisfaction that Leeds was even in contention for promotion, despite a slow start due to off-field issues.

This year is different; Farke has had time to implement his ideas and strengthen the team, while many rivals face significant changes with new coaches or key player departures.

The start of the season will be challenging, with four strong contenders for the top six, while Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff City aim for top-half finishes.

Although the title won’t be decided in these eight games, Leeds can set the tone for their season, particularly in the match against Burnley. If this initial phase doesn’t favor Farke, he will face significant challenges both mentally and in terms of team performance.
