Everton Compete for European Transfer Amid Rival Bid – Report
Everton are persisting in their efforts to secure a deal for Florentino Luis, despite facing competition from Leicester City, as reported by Record.
According to a report from Record on June 30, Leicester City is preparing to make a bid for Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis, while Everton remains actively involved in the pursuit.
Everton has been keen on the 24-year-old for some time. Earlier in January, they had a €30 million (£25.5 million) offer rejected (Ben Jacobs, May 22). Later, Correio da Manha, in their May 31 print edition (page 11), reported Everton returned with a second bid of the same amount.
The interest in Luis intensifies as Everton faces the likely departure of midfielder Amadou Onana this summer (Alan Myers, June 14), with several clubs showing interest. Should Onana leave, it would potentially bolster Everton’s transfer budget at Goodison Park.
Despite financial constraints, recent developments such as the departures of Lewis Dobbin and Ben Godfrey, along with the impending takeover by Dan Friedkin, suggest Everton’s financial concerns are being addressed by the June 30 deadline.
The permanent acquisition of Iliman Ndiaye from Marseille, as reported by Foot Mercato on June 24, signals Everton’s willingness to invest. Additionally, Jack Harrison has returned on loan.
Leicester’s pursuit of Luis could impact the future of their midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, who reportedly received an offer amidst uncertainty over his contract extension (Sacha Tavolieri, April 29).
Sean Dyche is keen on bolstering his midfield options, especially if Onana follows Andre Gomes out of Everton. There’s also speculation that both Luis and Ndidi could end up at Leicester under Steve Cooper’s management.
