Tottenham Finalizes Striker Transfer Following Agreement
Spurs Academy Graduate Departs After Seven Years to Return to Eredivisie, Where Loan Stint at Excelsior Impressed
Tottenham have officially announced the transfer of striker Troy Parrott to AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands.
The Republic of Ireland international returns to the Eredivisie, where he made a significant impact last season on loan at Excelsior, scoring 17 goals and providing five assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.
Despite his impressive performances, Excelsior faced relegation. Nevertheless, Parrott’s displays caught the attention of AZ Alkmaar, who secured his services as they finished fourth in the Eredivisie.
Spurs reportedly received a fee of €8 million (£6.7m) for the 22-year-old, who joined the club’s academy in 2017 from Dublin’s Belvedere.
Parrott made four senior appearances for Tottenham after signing his first professional contract in 2019. His game time came primarily during the 2019/20 season under Mauricio Pochettino and later Jose Mourinho.
Notably, he debuted in the Carabao Cup third-round upset by Colchester and also featured as a substitute in Premier League matches against Burnley and Wolves. His final appearance for Spurs was as a late substitute in the FA Cup fifth-round draw with Norwich in March 2020.
During his time at Tottenham, Parrott had loan spells at Millwall, Ipswich Town, MK Dons, and Preston North End before moving to the Netherlands.
His Tottenham contract, extended in 2022, was set to expire in the summer of 2025.
“Before I signed here, I heard a lot of good things about AZ,” Parrott commented on his move. “I think AZ is the perfect club for me to take the next steps in my development.”
