Sheffield United Issues Transfer Warning to Leeds United Amid Interest in Key Player and Rejects Offers

Chris Wilder has warned clubs targeting Sheffield United’s key players that the Blades will not be exploited in the transfer market this summer. This statement follows news of Leeds United’s interest in Jayden Bogle, as reported by The Telegraph. Bogle is on Daniel Farke’s Elland Road wishlist as Leeds aims to recover from last season’s play-off final defeat.
Bogle, who is in the final year of his contract after receiving a one-year extension, puts the Blades in a vulnerable position. They risk losing him for free next summer, although some compensation could be possible, similar to the £1.5 million upfront fee received from AFC Bournemouth for Daniel Jebbison’s registration earlier this summer.
Sheffield United faced similar situations last summer with Sander Berge and Iliman Ndiaye, who also entered the final 12 months of their contracts. Bogle is crucial to United’s plans for the new season, especially after George Baldock’s departure to Greek club Panathinaikos. Despite this, the club acknowledges that every player has a price and may start contract discussions with Bogle and his representatives.
After a 2-1 victory at York City, where Bogle played 45 minutes, Wilder emphasized that Sheffield United is not a selling club but recognizes the reality of transfer interest. He stated, “There is a value in every player. We’re not a selling club, but we understand that if there’s interest and bids, any club will consider them. We won’t sell players below their worth.”
Currently, Wilder is more focused on acquiring players rather than selling, despite some squad members like Anel Ahmedhodzic and Vini Souza attracting attention after the club’s relegation from the Premier League. Wilder mentioned, “There have been offers turned down. It has to be the right deal for us. Interest has been shown, but not to the point where any player is on the verge of leaving. The players’ attitudes have been excellent since returning. If they see their future elsewhere, they need to work hard here and now.”
Wilder’s message is clear: while Sheffield United is open to the right offers, they will not let key players go cheaply. The focus remains on strengthening the squad and preparing for the upcoming season.
