Leicester City will not be signing Callum O’Hare, as the attacking midfielder is reportedly set to join Sheffield United.
City had been linked to O’Hare as they search for a replacement for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The 26-year-old, who left Coventry at the end of his contract last month and became a free agent, would have been an affordable option for Leicester.
However, it appears he will remain in the Championship. Alan Nixon reports that recently-relegated Sheffield United have taken the lead in the race to sign O’Hare and are likely to secure his services, despite significant interest from Leeds.
O’Hare’s numerous suitors are unsurprising given his impressive Championship stats. Last season, after recovering from a cruciate ligament injury, he scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.
Leicester City has made good progress in the transfer window this month, signing Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Michael Golding, and Caleb Okoli. Abdul Fatawu’s arrival is imminent, and Wilfred Ndidi has signed a new contract.
However, they still lack an attacking midfielder after selling Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea for £30 million. City has been linked to several high-profile deals in this area, including Juventus’s Matias Soule and Celtic’s Matt O’Riley.
Either of these players would be a marquee signing and significantly boost Leicester’s attacking options. Yet, Atalanta seems to have taken the lead in the pursuit of O’Riley, while Roma is also competing for Soule.
