Journalist: Tottenham Favors Signing 28-Goal Striker Over Jacob Ramsey

Tottenham Hotspur Face Significant Costs to Secure Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa

Spurs showed significant promise in Ange Postecoglou’s inaugural season at the club, despite faltering towards the end with just two wins in their last seven Premier League games.

Fans are anticipating a stronger 2024/25 season, buoyed by the signings of Timo Werner and Archie Gray already secured by the club.

Postecoglou is looking to bolster his squad further, with Tottenham reportedly eyeing Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey. However, securing Ramsey’s services is proving to be a complex task.

Ramsey, a versatile English midfielder, is highly regarded at Aston Villa despite enduring a challenging 2023/24 season marred by injuries, which limited him to just 10 starts across all competitions.

Tottenham’s interest in Ramsey remains undiminished, despite their initial offer of Giovani Lo Celso plus £20 million being swiftly rebuffed by Villa in June.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Aston Villa is reluctant to part ways with Ramsey this summer. Therefore, Tottenham would likely need to submit a substantial bid, either with or without including Lo Celso, to initiate a deal.

Jacobs noted that Tottenham’s prospects of securing other top targets such as Pedro Neto from Wolves, Lois Openda from RB Leipzig, and Jonathan David from Lille appear more promising than their pursuit of Ramsey.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jacobs stated, “Tottenham are still exploring the possibility of Ramsey, but Villa don’t want to lose him, so they’re either going to have to pay big money for him, with or without Lo Celso, or they’re going to have to move on.”

He highlighted Openda’s goal-scoring prowess as a significant asset Tottenham could benefit from. The 24-year-old striker scored an impressive 28 goals in all competitions during the 2023/24 season, surpassing every Tottenham player’s tally.

Openda has consistently delivered over 20 goals per season since 2021/22 and has shown versatility in contributing to team goals.

Should Tottenham secure Openda’s signature, it is believed he could thrive under Postecoglou’s system and potentially elevate the club to new heights.

Overall, Tottenham’s pursuit of Ramsey remains uncertain due to Aston Villa’s reluctance, but their pursuit of alternative targets like Openda reflects their determination to strengthen the squad significantly ahead of the new season.
