Leicester City Targets Midfielder Previously Sought by Leeds United – Report

Leeds United are focusing on bolstering their midfield this month following the departures of Archie Gray and Glen Kamara. Joe Rothwell has joined the team, leaving Leeds with three senior midfielders and the promising Charlie Crew.

As Leeds negotiated with Tottenham over the sale of Archie Gray in late June, they aimed to acquire players in return. While Joe Rodon re-signed for £10 million, Football.london reported that Leeds also wanted to include Oliver Skipp in the deal. However, Tottenham declined, despite manager Daniel Farke’s interest in reuniting with Skipp, a key player from his time at Norwich City in the 2020/21 season.

Football Insider now reports that newly-promoted Leicester City are planning to sign the deep-lying midfielder this summer. Manager Steve Cooper is seeking reinforcements in midfield after losing star player Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea.

It remains uncertain whether Tottenham will entertain offers for Skipp, even though they have recently invested in young talent for his position. Should Leeds secure Skipp, their midfield would be significantly strengthened, especially with Rothwell providing additional cover.

However, Farke may be seeking more offensive output from his midfield, following Glen Kamara’s sale this week. Skipp would be a solid acquisition for Leicester, but it’s uncertain if they can manage the financial aspect of such a deal given their current situation.
