Enzo Maresca is a notable admirer of Leicester City’s Mads Hermansen, according to journalist Tom Collomosse, with Chelsea actively seeking a new goalkeeper.
Stamford Bridge has had a busy summer, welcoming six new players, but Chelsea is expected to continue its transfer activities. The team heads to America for their pre-season tour on Monday but is still in the market for a goalkeeper, striker, and winger before the new campaign begins.
Chelsea had shown interest in a new goalkeeper earlier this summer, but those discussions had cooled until recently. Reports now suggest the club is actively searching for a new shot-stopper. Despite signing Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic last summer, Chelsea is looking for a goalkeeper better suited to Maresca’s style, where good distribution is crucial.
Sanchez struggled in his debut season. Although he started well, he made several errors and was replaced by Petrovic after an injury in December. Sanchez is expected to start the season as Chelsea’s number one, but his position is not secure. Petrovic, who impressed after joining from the MLS, does not fully match Maresca’s requirements. Chelsea reportedly offered him to Genoa, but the Italian club found the 24-year-old too expensive.
Collomosse reports that Maresca, who signed Hermansen for Leicester last summer, is a strong admirer of the Danish goalkeeper. Valued at around £45 million, Hermansen made 44 appearances in the Championship last season, keeping 13 clean sheets and helping Leicester win the title and secure promotion to the Premier League.
A move for Hermansen seems logical. Maresca knows him well, and he fits the Italian’s playing style. During pre-season, Chelsea will assess Sanchez and Petrovic to see how they adapt to Maresca’s methods. Additionally, the club has been linked with other goalkeepers like James Trafford, Giorgi Mamardashvili, and Filip Jorgensen.
