Leeds United Agree Deal with Local Rival for Wantaway Defender, Set to Receive Fee After ‘Medical Booked’
The former Leeds full-back left Elland Road this summer after his contract expired, declining an extension offer from the club. He had spent recent seasons on loan at Cardiff City, Luton Town, and Birmingham City.
Despite working under several Leeds managers, Drameh struggled to secure a regular starting spot and was deemed surplus to requirements by Daniel Farke after a brief appearance against Ipswich Town early last season.
Drameh, previously of Fulham, experienced relegation with Birmingham but enjoyed notable successes, including winning promotion to the Premier League with Luton and earning Cardiff’s Player of the Season award during his loan stint with the Bluebirds.
Hull City has signed the 22-year-old on a permanent deal, bolstering new manager Tim Walter’s squad following the departure of previous head coach Liam Rosenior and several key players from last season, such as Jaden Philogene, Jacob Greaves, and Ozan Tufan.
According to the Hull Daily Mail, Drameh is scheduled to undergo a medical at Hull’s training facility today, Tuesday, July 23. During his four-year tenure at Leeds, Drameh made ten appearances for the club, having initially joined for a six-figure fee in the summer of 2020.
Leeds recently strengthened their squad by adding Sheffield United right-back Jayden Bogle, who joined the first-team group at their pre-season training camp in Germany last week.
Additionally, fellow defender Sam Byram extended his stay at Elland Road with a one-year contract extension following Leeds’ defeat in last season’s play-off final.
Although Drameh departed on a free transfer, Leeds is entitled to a training compensation fee since they had offered him a new contract at the end of last season and because he spent several developmental years at Thorp Arch.
Article 20 of FIFA’s Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players states: “Training compensation shall be paid to a player’s training club(s): (1) when a player signs his first contract as a professional, and (2) each time a professional is transferred until the end of the season of his 23rd birthday.”
