Everton reportedly see Kalvin Phillips as a potential replacement for Amadou Onana following his move to Aston Villa.
The Villains confirmed the signing of the Belgian midfielder for £50 million earlier this week, marking their second-highest transfer fee ever.
Onana’s departure was anticipated, with Arsenal and Newcastle United showing interest over the summer. Previously linked with a move to St. James’ Park in January, Onana will now continue his career at Villa Park, leaving Everton with a significant gap in their midfield.
According to TalkSport, Everton may target Phillips to address this void. The 28-year-old midfielder had a challenging loan spell at West Ham during the latter half of last season, making just ten appearances in all competitions.
He was heavily linked with a move to Tyneside during the winter window but struggled for game time at the London Stadium, featuring only once in West Ham’s final eight league games, excluding the match against his parent club, Manchester City, for which he was ineligible.
Phillips appears to have no future at the Etihad Stadium and is likely to depart this summer. However, Everton, facing financial constraints, may only be able to arrange a loan deal for the former Leeds United player.
