Hull City Enter Transfer Race with Championship Rivals to Sign Leicester City Winger
Kasey McAteer Scored in Leicester City's Pre-Season Friendly Victory Over Shrewsbury Town Last Night
Hull City and Cardiff City are reportedly interested in signing Leicester City winger Kasey McAteer on a season-long loan for the 2024/25 Championship season, according to journalist Darren Witcoop.
McAteer played for Leicester in their 2-1 victory over Shrewsbury Town, their first public match under new manager Steve Cooper. His future with Leicester remains uncertain as the club prepares for the Premier League campaign.
A product of Leicester’s youth academy, McAteer made a significant first-team breakthrough last year following loan spells at Forest Green Rovers and AFC Wimbledon. Despite injuries, he made 23 Championship appearances, contributing to Leicester’s title win.
Cardiff is believed to have already discussed a potential move with McAteer. The 22-year-old is in the final year of his contract with Leicester, and Newcastle United, Everton, and Crystal Palace were reportedly keeping an eye on his situation earlier this summer.
Hull City, managed by Tim Walter, is looking to strengthen their squad for the Championship season. They have only added defenders Ryan Giles and Codeh Drameh so far. Drameh completed his free transfer from Leeds United to Hull City yesterday, choosing them over Leeds’ contract offer.
Drameh expressed his enthusiasm for joining Hull, saying: “What attracted me was the owner and the interest the club showed in me. Everyone seemed like they really wanted me. It’s a pleasure to feel wanted and that was something that attracted me.
“It’s been a bit unstable for me – I’ve been around a lot – so now to finally settle down in Hull and hopefully do some big things with Hull is really nice.
“I’d say I’m an all-rounder. I like to get up and down, quite energetic, I enjoy defending one-on-ones, and I can contribute in attack.”
